The Ksar Draa in Timimoun, Algeria, is an ancient ruin that stands out in the middle of an ocean of dunes, and it’s history has been lost over the centuries. The only news related to it is that for a certain period of time it was occupied by the Jews of the Timimoun region.
Must have been pretty heavily fortified in its day, I wonder if it was already a desert climate at that time or if the region was a little more hospitable back then. Seems odd to need a castle/fort in the middle of the desert unless it was for keeping out wildlife. Of course, the Jews were persecuted everywhere they went so there’s that. And what was their water source? Pretty amazing
Does anyone know hold it is? I found opposing views on Google some say it was built in 16th century, some state this is much older.
