  1. Must have been pretty heavily fortified in its day, I wonder if it was already a desert climate at that time or if the region was a little more hospitable back then. Seems odd to need a castle/fort in the middle of the desert unless it was for keeping out wildlife. Of course, the Jews were persecuted everywhere they went so there’s that. And what was their water source? Pretty amazing
