Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio said Sunday there aren’t “enough good people” seeking to become police officers because of the effects of the “defund the police” movement, which he accuses of smearing those responsible for law enforcement across the country.
Jordan, the Republican chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, made the comments on NBC’s “Meet the Press” while discussing the death of Tire Nichols, who was brutally beaten by five police officers in Memphis, Tennessee, earlier this month.
“We don’t get enough good people applying because of the police bashing. They don’t get enough people applying, taking the test to get into the academy to become an officer because there’s been this funding the police concept there,” he said on the NBC News show.
“There was this attack on law enforcement, and you don’t get the best of the best,” he added.
