Netflix‘s Kaleidoscope kicks off 2023 with a bold new experiment for the streaming giant. While Netflix has experimented with “Choose Your Own Adventure” style programming before, Kaleidoscope is the first series that is designed to be watched in any order. In fact, your Netflix account will probably show a different episode order than your best friend’s. The only thing that everyone’s Netflix account should have in common is that the “last” episode should be the “White” episode of Kaleidoscope, aka the actual heist. But once you’ve binged the whole series, will you want more? Will Netflix make a Kaleidoscope Season 2?
Created by Eric Garcia, Kaleidoscope follows Leo Pap (Giancarlo Esposito), a charming career crook who pulls together a ragtag team to pull off an impossible heist. Leo and his crew are going to use a hurricane as cover to steal $7 billion worth of unregistered bearer bonds. However, the heist isn’t as clear cut as all that. Leo has targeted this specific mark because it will mean ruining his life-long nemesis Roger Salas (Rufus Sewell).
Over the course of Kaleidoscope‘s eight episodes, we’ll learn about the characters’ tragic backstories, horrific double crosses, and devious ways. There are shocks and surprises, and yes, a ton of bloody deaths. However, it’s unclear if Kaleidoscope‘s story can continue past its first eight episodes. Will there be a Kaleidoscope Season 2 on Netflix? Here’s everything we know so far about Kaleidoscope Season 2…
Will There Be a Kaleidoscope Season 2 on Netflix?
We don’t know if there will be a Kaleidoscope Season 2 on Netflix.
Eric Garcia designed Kaleidoscope to be an eight episode limited series that could be watched in any order. Part of the show’s charm is how the eight episodes interconnect in surprising ways. That also means that it’s a complete story…or is it?
There are a couple of loose ends left in the wake of Kaleidoscope‘s story. We don’t know what happens to Stan Loomis (Peter Mark Kendall) or who the father of Hannah’s (Tati Gabrielle) baby is. Roger Salas is still rotting in jail and wants revenge. Oh, and the Triplets still get away with their money and literal murder. There could be room for another installment that addresses these questions and delves more into key characters’ backstories.
However Kaleidoscope could also return as an anthology series. We could meet a whole new crew of thieves as they embark on a totally new heist.
As of right now, Kaleidoscope is a single season show, but it wouldn’t be the first limited series to win a second season renewal. After all, hits like The White Lotus and Squid Game were originally only supposed to be one and done…
When Will Kaleidoscope Season 2 Premiere on Netflix?
Assuming that Kaleidoscope is a huge hit for Netflix and supposing that series creator Eric Garcia has an idea for a second non-linear heist story, we have some sort of idea for when Kaleidoscope Season 2 would premiere.
Kaleidoscope Season 1 went into production in September 2021. Given that timeline, the very earliest we could see a second season would be April 2024. However, since Garcia and company would probably need time to write a new batch of scripts, we could be looking at late 2024 or even January 1, 2025.
Keep in mind, though, that Kaleidoscope was conceived of as a limited series, so this is all conjecture.
